Sea Stop Installation Instructions
⚠️ Important Safety Notice:
Installation of this product should be performed by a qualified marine technician or an individual familiar with 12-volt marine electrical systems.
Always disconnect the vessel’s battery and follow standard marine wiring safety practices before beginning installation.
Improper installation may result in product malfunction, damage to your vessel, or risk of electrical shock or fire.
1. Mounting the Light
-
Identify a suitable rear-facing mounting location on the stern side of the engine cowling, or an alternate surface such as a poling platform or other visible rear location. Ensure the area is flat, and free of obstructions.
-
Use the provided gasket as a drilling template. Hold it in place and mark the mounting hole locations clearly with a pencil or fine-tip marker.
-
Drill the mounting holes using a 1/8” drill bit (verify with included hardware). Drill slowly to avoid cracking or chipping the surface.
-
Drill a 7/16” center hole (or the smallest size required to pass the wire harness) for running the wires through the mounting surface.
⚠️ Caution: Inspect behind the mounting surface before drilling to ensure you do not damage any existing wiring, hoses, or structural components.
2. Wiring the Light
-
Once the light is securely mounted, use the supplied marine-grade butt connectors to attach the quick-release connections.
-
Ensure all wires are stripped to approximately ¼ inch (6 mm) before inserting into connectors.
-
Insert each wire fully into its connector, then crimp firmly using a marine-grade crimping tool.
-
Slide the included heat-shrink tubing over the connection and apply heat evenly using a low-temperature heat gun until the tubing shrinks tightly and seals the connection.
⚠️ Do not use open flame or high heat, as this may damage the wire insulation. -
Route the two-wire cable through the rigging tube to the engine, and continue through the engine wire loom toward the control module location.
-
Connect the wires to the quick connector as follows:
-
Red to Red (positive)
-
Black to Black (negative)
3. Mounting the Control Module
-
Mount the control module on a clean, dry, and flat surface inside the console or under-deck compartment.
-
The label should face upward, and wires should point toward the stern (rear).
-
Use the provided mounting hardware or marine-grade fasteners to secure the module. Avoid areas exposed to direct water spray, or excessive heat.
4. Power Connections
-
Connect the red wire from the control module to a fused 12V constant power source that remains active during vessel operation (i.e. Ignition Switch).
-
Recommended minimum fuse rating: 5A.
-
Use only marine-grade fuses and wiring.
-
Connect the black wire from both the light and module to a clean, solid ground point in your existing electrical system.
-
The ground should be free of corrosion and securely connected to the vessel’s negative bus or battery terminal.
-
Connect the green and gray wire from the control module to the red wire from the light. This supplies power to the light when activated.
5. Final Check
After all connections are secure:
-
Verify that all wiring is properly supported, protected, and sealed from moisture and abrasion.
-
Reconnect the vessel’s battery.
-
Test the Sea Stop light with a fellow boater behind you, at a safe distance while on plane and decelerate safely as directed in your vessel operation documentation. Never test in a designated “No Wake Zone”.
-
Confirm proper light illumination and module function.
Installation Complete:
Your Sea Stop vessel to vessel deceleration indicator light is now ready for use. Always test system functionality before each outing.
